Materials Required:
J. & P. COATS "KNIT-CRO-SHEEN,” Art. A.64: 2 balls of No. 64-C Charcoal.
COATS & CLARK'S O.N.T. SIX STRAND EMBROIDERY FLOSS, Art. C.11: Few yards each of No. 65 Beauty Pink and No. 12 Black.
Milwards Steel Crochet Hook No.1.
Scraps of pink, white and grey felt. 2 gold beads, 1 gold and 2 green sequins. 1 bone ring.
Step-by-Step Instructions:
Use thread double throughout.
Starting at top of Head, ch 4. 1st rnd: 11 dc in 4th ch from hook. Join with sl st to top of starting chain. 2nd rnd: Ch 3, dc in same place as sl st, 2 dc in each dc around. Join. 3rd, 4th and 5th rnds: Ch 3, * 2 dc in next dc, dc in next dc. Repeat from * around. Join. 6th rnd: Ch 3, dc in next 2 dc, * 2 dc in next dc, dc in next 3 dc. Repeat from * around. Join. 7th rnd: Ch 3, dc in next 3 dc, * 2 dc in next dc, dc in next 4 dc. Repeat from * around. Join. 8th, 9th and 10th rnds: Ch 3, dc in next 4 dc, * 2 dc in next dc, dc in next 5 dc. Repeat from * around. Join.
To Shape Face: 1st row: Ch 3, dc in next 50 dc. Ch 3, turn. Work over these sts only as follows: 2nd row: Dec 1 dc -- to dec 1 dc, work off 2 dc as 1 dc -- dc in each dc across to within last 2 dc, dec 1 dc. Ch 3, turn. 3rd to 9th rows incl: Dec 2 dc, dc in each dc across to within last 4 dc, dec 2 dc. Ch 3, turn. Break off at end of 9th row.
BACK OF HEAD ... 1st row: With right side facing, attach thread to last rnd of Head in 45th st from left edge of face, ch 3, dc in next 50 dc. Ch 3, turn. Complete exactly as for Face.
Cut eyes of white felt and tongue of pink felt. Sew eyes in place, then sew green sequins in center with gold beads. Sew gold sequin in place for nose. With Pink, embroider mouth, with Black embroider whiskers. Sew tongue in place. Line ears with pink felt; line face and back of Head with grey felt. Fold Head in half. Sew around outer edge, leaving outer edges of ears free. With one strand of Charcoal, sc around bone ring and sew in place at top of Head.
