Knitted Orange Bag, Free Knitting Pattern
Materials Required:
American Thread Company "AUNT LYDIA'S" Heavy Rug Yarn, Article 235: 5 skeins Orange or color desired.
1 pr. knitting needles No. 5.
1 pr. plastic bag handles.
GAUGE: 7 sts = 2 inches.
Step-by-Step Instructions:
Cast on 53 sts and P 1 row. Work in stockinette st (K 1 row, P 1 row) for 8 rows.
10th Row: K and increase in every 3rd st 18 times (71 sts). P 1 row. Work in pattern as follows:
1st Row: Right Side: * K 5, P 1, repeat from * across row ending with K 5.
2nd Row: K 1, * P 3, K 3, repeat from * across row ending last repeat with P 3, K 1.
3rd Row: P 2, * K 1, P 5, repeat from * across row ending last repeat with K 1, P 2.
Repeat these 3 rows for pattern. Work even in pattern until work measures about 23 inches from the beginning ending with 3rd row of pattern on wrong side. K 1 row.
Next Row: P across decreasing 18 sts evenly spaced (53 sts). Work 9 rows in stockinette st, bind off.
Fold in half and with "AUNT LYDIA'S" Carpet and Button Thread, sew side seams to within 4½ inches from top.
Fold top edge over bar of handle and sew firmly.
Sew opposite side to other handle in same manner. Line bag if desired.
